Holiday beauty trend: value palettes
As Canada continues to slowly pull out of recession, retailers are responding this holiday season with some exceptional beauty palettes at even more impressive pricing. Take Quo’s Treasure Box for example. It’s a sleek box that hides 24 eyeshadows, eight lip glosses, three pressed powders, a black mascara, and a lip liner housed in a jeweled compact. It’s a steal at $35.
Sephora has also collaborated with its beauty brands to come up with value sets. It’s Tarte Treasure Chest is arguably the most impressive with dozens of shades in a jewel encrusted case. It carries a whopping value of $628, but only retails for $68. Expect that one to fly out of stores when it arrives in the next week or so. Cargo Cosmetics is also jumping on the value set bandwagon with a pair of colour cosmetic kits housed in a black book-shaped case. One offers nine luxurious eyeshadows. The other containing four eyeshadows and two blush/bronzers. It retails for $34 but is valued at $120.
“Consumers do not give up their beauty routines altogether when budgets are tight,” says Euromonitor’s Svetlana Uduslivaia. “Nonetheless, they do reconsider their priorities and purchasing patterns as the economy contracts and unemployment rises sharply. Canadians are now choosing more modestly priced products. They are looking for value.”
