Neutrogena taps bioelectricity for new approach to anti-aging skincare
Johnson and Johnson is leveraging years of research into skin bioelectricity with a cutting edge new skincare line called Neutrogena Clinical that arrives in store this month. The two-step regime promises to minimize the visible signs of collagen loss to restore facial definition and smooth wrinkles thanks to a multi-patented ION2Complex. It works with the body’s innate electrical signaling system to stimulate collagen production.
What makes this launch so interesting is that it takes a very different approach to fighting the signs of aging. Company chemists believed that by studying bioelectricity, the native electric current that cells use for a variety of functions, one of them being to signal one another through cell-to-cell communication, they could keep skin looking younger, longer. They discovered the skin uses a positively charged ion flow to help maintain the ongoing creation of collagen. That protein is essential to supporting the structure of the skin. Not surprising, as the skin ages, the ion flow decreases. This can lead to diminished cell-to-cell communication and decreased production of of essential proteins.
The solution turned out to be this ION2Complex technology that when activated by moisture physically stimulates the skin’s surface. The gel serum contains essential ion-mineral conductors, a top-secret blend of minerals composed of zinc coated copper that create a positively charged ion flow within the skin’s surface. This improved flow mimicked ion flow levels of much younger skin.
Activating the product consists of two steps. The first is to apply the gel serum. Then, you follow up with the activating cream. When combined, the ION2Complex technology is activated by the cream, releasing essential ion-mineral conductors that create a positive ion flow to help minimize the visible signs of collagen loss. During clinical studies, 85% of subjects noticed improved skin resilience.
The Neutrogena Clinical line consists of four items. There is a day and night duo with a complementary eye system that each retail for $46.99. A Starter Kit including day and eye products is also available priced at $63.99. The line is available at select drugstores and mass retailers across Canada.
