Editor’s Picks: Please Pass the Pastels

Spring has sprung and I'm ready to banish my fave merlot hues (except in my sangria, obvs) and fill my makeup bag with a rainbow of dreamy pastel shades. —Heather Marrin

This colourful brush set is actually inspired by unicorns. (Check out the twisted gold handle that also offers easier gripping.) Dermatologist-tested and super fluffy, the brushes are ideal for contouring, highlighting, blending and more.

With shades so sweet I actually contemplated licking them, this six-piece set of confectionery-inspired hues has me changing my polish on the daily. Luckily, since each polish is formulated with biotin and green tea extract for fast-drying results, I can switch up my mani as often as my outfit.

Formulated to correct, mattify and set, Hard Candy’s new colour correcting powder features a weaved ribbon of finely milled pastel pigments to neutralize and balance skincare concerns like redness, dullness and dark circles. Whether applied before or after makeup, the sheer and luminous powder provides an all-over matte finish, that's as practical as it is well-priced.

Hard Candy Colour Correcting Finishing Powder, $8, exclusively at Walmart.

Just when I thought I was over colouring my hair and ready to embrace the natural look, Marc Jacobs had to tousle Karlie Kloss’s hair into '90s-grunge-inspired dreads with pops of pink and purple at his SS17 New York Fashion Week show. Since I’m not totally ready to permanently display my love for these Gem-and-the-Hologram-esque hues, I'm turning to a new temporary solution. Available in 11 shades of awesome, ranging from peach to blue, it washes out in 4-10 washes and is safe for already bleached, light blond or highlighted hair.

L'Oréal Paris Colourista Semi-Permanent Hair Colour, $17 at mass-market retailers and drugstores.

Pastel eyes seem a bit 1984? Think again! SS17 catwalks — especially Jill Stuart's where multiple pretty Pantones were on show — are all the encouragement I need to get reacquainted with dusty lilac shadows. This versatile palette is also packed with plenty of not-so-moody hues to play with.

After drooling over the eclectic looks at Thom Browne’s SS17 show in New York, I'm revisiting a few cool-toned lip colours I haven’t had the guts to try in public. Packed with bold, pastel pigments that leave a satin matte finish, NYX’s Macaron Lippies are the perfect way to bring some edge to any look and outlast through any sweet indulgence.
