Essie to Bring Back “Starry, Starry Night”
One of Essie’s most famous shades, “Starry, Starry Night,” will soon be back on shelves. Nail-polish collectors lust so much after the discontinued colour—a twinkly navy blue launched in 1985—it was dubbed a “white whale for those in the know” in a New York Times article on “The Lure of Hard-to-Find Nail Polish Colors.” Fans have spent years hunting for lookalike lacquers (called “dupes” in beauty lingo), and at least one enterprising eBay-er reportedly listed a bottle for $250.
But the search will soon be over: “Starry, Starry Night” is set to re-launch at drugstores, salons and other retailers across Canada on January 5 as part of Essie’s Retro Revival range, $10 each. The Vegas-themed collection marks the brand’s 35th birthday with six rare lacquers in total, including “Life of the Party” (2002) and “Sequin Sash” (2005).
Consumers can scoop up the bottles until they’re gone—on average, Essie’s limited-edition collections usually last about three months, but all bets are off with “Starry, Starry Night.”
