Hot Launch: Calvin Klein’s Gender-Free Fragrance CK2
The backstory: When Calvin Klein released CK One 21 years ago, it made industry waves as one of the first unisex fragrances, catering to the androgynous zeitgeist of the mid-’90s. This February, the brand will push boundaries once again with CK2, a fresh, woody eau de toilette described by the oft-provocative brand as gender-free. This new addition captures “a youthful connection between two people to celebrate the differences that make our connections richer.”
The bottle: With its clear liquid housed in a rounded glass bulb, CK2’s transparent, minimalist packaging conveys its genderless concept. The cap and nozzle act as the base of the bottle and, when uncapped, the capsule can be flipped right side up and cradled in the acrylic base.
The notes: Striking a balance between urban grittiness and the freshness of nature, the scent opens with a spicy wasabi flavour, contrasted by notes of mandarin and violet leaf absolute. The heart of the fragrance features a splash of wet cobblestones, orris concrete and rose. Finally, CK2 rounds out with vetiver and a creamy blend of incense and sandalwood.
