Hot Launch: Miu Miu’s First Fragrance

Miu Miu Eau de Parfum, $100, 50 mL, available September at Holt Renfrew

The backstory: Designer-fragrance fans have been impatiently awaiting this launch since 2013, when Coty Inc. and Prada Group announced they would team up to create a whole line of scents under the Miu Miu name. The debut spritz, Miu Miu Eau de Parfum, will land in Canada exclusively at Holt Renfrew in September.

The bottle: The quilted look of the soft blue glass is a nod to Miu Miu’s famous matelassé (see: the designer’s buttery-leather handbags), while the graphic, cherry-red disk adds a contrasting pop of playfulness, befitting Miuccia Prada’s quirky-chic sensibility.

The notes: If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again: Perfumer Daniela Andrier made more than 1,000 versions of the scent before pulling off the perfect lily-of-the-valley illusion. Because the bloom is tricky to distill, the effect was actually created using rose absolute, jasmine and green notes, then contrasted by a woody patchouli extract.
