New in stores this month, Dior Addict Fluid Shadow promises an innovative way to achieve metallic shine on lids. Billed as “eye varnish” and available in six shades, this hybrid shadow is housed in a lip gloss–like tube, complete with a tiny brush applicator. It can be used all over lids (blended or not), or in a single stroke along the lash line for a pop of colour.
The product’s official how-to instructions advise applying only on the mobile, or upper, lid and keeping the eyes closed for a few seconds after application to avoid product transfer. As part of the first collection by Dior makeup’s new creative and image director Peter Philips, Fluid Shadow is evocative of the eye-heavy look he created for the brand’s Fall 2015 runway show in Paris.
To see how the product works in real life, the Cosmetics team put it to the test:

“The liquid texture glides on with ease and dries in an instant. I’m not usually one for metallic shades, but this shadow definitely captured my attention.”

“This berry metallic is gorgeous for a night out. It really pops next to my blue eyes and I love the intense, vibrant finish. While it dried a lot quicker than I’d expected, I did find the application a bit tricky, kind of like trying to paint your eyelids with nail polish. With some practice and patience, I hope to perfect a real statement look in time for all the TIFF parties next month.”

“To remove excess product from the applicator lest I make a mess, I flattened the brush a couple times against the tube’s edge. Then I used it to pull off a bronze-y cat-eye liner look—shiny but subtle. The formula does dry super fast, but any mistakes are easy to erase. Just clean up with a Q-tip dipped in a micellar cleanser.”
