Last week, luxury department-store retailer Holt Renfrew quietly revealed a revamped website, complete with its long-awaited foray into e-commerce. Just in time for the holiday shopping boom, the new HoltRenfrew.com now carries 7,000 beauty products from over 50 brands, including Sisley, La Prairie, La Mer, Christian Louboutin Beauty, Aesop, Charlotte Tilbury and Tom Ford, with free shipping on beauty orders over $100. Offerings cover makeup, skincare, fragrance, men’s grooming and more.
Currently, only Holt Renfrew’s cosmetics department is shoppable online, but additional categories are set to be added throughout 2016.
In an official statement, Holt Renfrew described the new site as a “significant milestone” in its growth plan, which entails investing $300 million. The company also noted that it’s in the process of expanding its store network by 40 percent.
Holt Renfrew’s move intensifies the increasing competition in Canada’s beauty e-tail space. In August, Shoppers Drug Mart launched BeautyBoutique.ca with a selection of prestige-focused brands, while Sephora.com introduced website enhancements for the Canadian market to deliver faster service.
