New Year, New You, New Pantone!

Long before Pantone named Ultra Violet 2018’s colour of the year, purple had been a favourite among late, great popular icons like Prince, Bowie and Hendrix, worn as a unique form of self-expression. It has also been made unforgettable by powerhouse females like Hilary Clinton — worn during her concession speech as a symbol of bipartisanship — and, of course, Oprah, over and over again.

Like the visionaries above, according to Pantone, Ultra Violet (PANTONE 18-3838) symbolizes “experimentation and non-conformity, spurring individuals to imagine their unique mark on the world, and push boundaries through creative outlets.” And when Pantone vice president Laurie Pressman was asked who wears Ultra Violet best, her answer, naturally, was Rihanna, who has been photographed championing variations of the shade from head to toe.

It’s Pantone’s hope that this colour will inspire the imaginations of artists, designers and brands, and we can’t help but hop on the purple bandwagon. Here are our five fave right-this-second products that we’re sporting to salute this bold, mystical shade:
