Editor's Picks: Wedding Day Musts

The summer heat is upon us and so is wedding season. For brides (and grooms) and guests alike, the hope is that our makeup stays put, our hair stays sleek and we stay calm, cool and collected. (As someone getting wed in 6 weeks, I can dream, right?) These are five products I'll be wearing to keep the melt to a minimum.

Ready, Set, Prime.

A primer is your best friend in the heat of summer as it sets up an invisible barrier between your skin and makeup, creating a smooth canvas on which to apply all your fave products. This oil-free option helps makeup to stay put even longer and avoids shine, even when the flash goes off.

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer Oil-Free, $50, at Sephora.ca.

Smooth Sailing

For those of us fighting frizz, summer weddings can add extra stress. Like most good love stories, caring for your hair starts at the beginning, in my case with a sulphate-free shampoo followed by a nourishing hair mask. My secret next step is using a nourishing hair oil pre-blowout. It protects your hair from heat styling, and against UV rays, and keeps your locks looking sleek and silky.

Shu Uemura Essence Absolue Oil, $69, at Shuuemura.ca.

Blot the Night Away

Ceremonies can be hot and dance floors can get lit, so blotting paper is a handbag must. These will leave your makeup in place, absorb that excess oil and leave you feeling instantly refreshed, no trip to the powder room required.

Tatcha Aburatorigami Blotting Papers, $12, at Tatcha.com.

I'm Not Crying…

Real talk: all weddings make me cry, so I have no idea how I will make it through my own streak-free! I often opt out of wearing any mascara, knowing it will end up all over the expensive linen napkins during the speeches. This cult favourite is now available in a waterproof formula, meaning my lashes will be clump-free and full of volume, tears or not!

Urban Decay Perversion Waterproof Mascara, $32, at Sephora.ca.

Into the Myst(ic)

I'm over the (honey)moon that Caudalie has launched a limited-edition rose water elixir. It delivers all the same glow-boosting results as its cult-favourite hit, toning, tightening, setting makeup and delivering an instant shot of radiance. Perfect for those quick refreshes I'll need throughout my big day.

Caudalie Beauty Elixir, $64, at Sephora.ca.
